Pre-Operative Instructions

PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

Go shopping! Yay for some, Ughh for others!

Items that you will want to have after surgery include:

LIQUIDS

  • Liquids: like tea, any juice, sports drinks/electrolyte replacements, popsicles, jell-o, water or flavored water, soup, coffee, etc.

Choose items you will enjoy, this will be your diet for a few days after surgery.

CLOTHING

  • Abdominal hernia surgeries/ colon surgeries; you will be given an abdominal binder at the facility. You are encouraged to purchase another one so they can be changed out.

  • Inguinal (groin) hernia surgeries: Slightly tighter than normal fitting compression shorts like biking shorts/spandex shorts. This will give support and decrease normal post op swelling.

MEDICATIONS

  • Review your medications and be aware of any that you should be holding before surgery. Our office or the facility should let you know, but if you have any questions, we are always here for you.

WHAT TO WEAR TO SURGERY

  • Plan out some comfortable clothes to wear too and from the facility. Yes, PJ's are acceptable.

DRIVER

  • Driver- You will need a driver to and from the facility.  Choose wisely, this is someone that you will hang out with for the day.
